Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads â“ both students and employers â“ for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCCâ™s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This part-time position provides customer service support to library users at the TCC Norfolk Library.
Provides excellent customer service at the library information desk. Greets visitors and provides directional and services-related information. Works with confidential data such as patron records. Uses ALMA to address student account questions, processes renewals, adds community patrons in TCC's system, and other issues as needed. Answers phones and provides basic information about library and/or redirects to other departments. Uses online library catalog to assist library users in finding materials. Provides reader's advisory information. Assists students in using MS office software, photocopier, and scanner. Trouble-shoots/resolves computer and printing issues, including the use of print and workstation management systems. Processes library materials, including: checking items in/out and re-shelving library materials. Performs assigned projects independently and/or in groups; including: book inventory and weeding projects. Shelf-reads library stacks collections using LC classification system. Processes Hold Requests, pulls items from shelves, and follows established procedures. Participates in staff meetings (schedule permitting). Performs other duties as assigned.
Ability to interact in a courteous and professional manner within a diverse work environment. Ability to work under pressure and handle confidential information. Ability to assert library policy and procedure. Demonstrated strong organizational skills. Demonstrated computer skills, including: Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of and skill in using standard equipment (printer, copier, and scanner). Ability to perform duties independently as well as within a team environment. Knowledge of business phone etiquette and ability to use telephone in a professional manner.
