The Chapin School, an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, seeks a student-centered, collaborative, and innovative educator for a short-term leave replacement with particular focus on teaching Biology and Chemistry.

The Upper School Science Teacher will teach three sections of science, including Biology (1 section) and Chemistry (2 sections) beginning immediately until December 22, 2023.
Chapin’s Upper School Science program blends traditional science content and skill acquisition with a deep focus on engaging students to think of themselves as scientists, willing and able to pursue their ideas to build a better world through scientific research and discovery. The Science Department engages in ongoing curricular and pedagogical work that recognizes the inquiring scientist in every student; relies upon respectful, collaborative relationships with both colleagues and students; and aligns with Next Generation Science Standards. The Department is proud of its wide array of advanced curricular offerings, which include Molecular Genetics, Principles of Engineering, Fly Lab Research in Molecular Biology (in partnership with Stan-X), and electives on forensic science, pharmacology, and public health.

UNDER ONE ROOF
Chapin’s single building provides a unified learning environment under one roof for all students, the 128 faculty members who teach them and the 85 staff members who support all other aspects of school life. An ambitious construction project to be completed in 2020 will feature an entire floor dedicated to the arts and a gymnasium with suspended running track—all with spectacular views of our urban location. The Hayot Center for Innovation, to open in 2020, will provide our entire learning community the opportunity to extend our commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry-based investigations and explorations, deepening students’ interests through experimentation, invention and the development of out-of-the-box solutions to complex issues.
