Part Time Staff Assistant, STEM Starter Academy
Professional Non-Unit Position; Grant-funded, non-benefited position
Campus Location: Lynn
Work Schedule: 20 hours per week.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Reporting to the Dean of STEM and Business, the Assistant will create and maintain communications for the STEM Starter Academy at North Shore Community College. The Assistant will share relevant opportunities with students through a range of methods (newsletter, blackboard, social media, etc.) to improve student success, persistence, completion, and post-graduate outcomes. The position will work closely with the STEM Starter Academy Senior Special Program Coordinator in developing a communications strategy and assisting in programming.
STEM Starter Academy was established in the Commonwealth for community colleges to provide wraparound support and services to a diverse body of students pursuing STEM certificates and degrees. The goal is to increase North Shore Community College (NSCC) student persistence and attainment for transferring to 4-year STEM programs or entering the workforce.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the STEM Senior Special Program Coordinator on communications strategy related to promoting events, educational opportunities, professional development, scholarships, jobs, and internships for NSCC STEM students.
Use data to assess the most effective communication methods for reaching a diverse STEM student population.
Compile opportunities to include in the monthly STEM Student Newsletter and generate the newsletter using Constant Contact or other applicable tool.
Maintain up to date opportunity posts on the STEM News page.
Coordinate the STEM at NSCC Social Media pages (Instagram & Facebook), including scheduling posts, creating relevant and engaging content, and responding to messages.
Design and post flyers for NSCC STEM events and programs.
Utilize EAB Navigate or other appropriate tool to send email campaigns to targeted students to promote opportunities.
Build relationships with students through STEM Club meetings and events. Connect with students to encourage them to take advantage of beneficial opportunities.
Assist the STEM Senior Special Programs Coordinator with planning, developing a calendar of STEM events, designing student programming, and facilitating student programming.
Other duties as assigned by the Division Dean, consistent with the scope of STEM Starter Academy.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (Associate Degree holders with one or more years of direct community college experience will be considered).
Demonstrated commitment to the values of access, equity, and inclusion.
Experience creating communications plans, newsletters and email communications, flyers, and social media content strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.
Preferences
Demonstrated familiarity and interest in STEM fields.
Demonstrated experience engaging with college students and ability to identify the most effective communications methods for different students.
Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Information:
SALARY: $22-26 per hour, 20 hours per week, grant-funded, non-benefited.
