THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED, PART-TIME POSITION (20 HOURS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Certified Nurse Midwife will participate in all aspects of healthcare and community and nursing education related to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant. The position delivers care at mobile clinic sites and elsewhere as needed, including, but not limited to, performing physical examinations, diagnosing illness, taking vitals, prescribing medications, scheduling follow-up appointments, and providing healthcare training on various public health topics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs physical examination of patients to evaluate health and diagnose illnesses.

2. Orders and interprets laboratory tests.

3. Determines, plans, and initiates appropriate treatment and adjusts treatment if necessary.

4. Prescribes medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.

5. Documents medical information of patients and maintains electronic medical records.

6. Educates, instructs, and counsels patients and families on presenting health problems, treatment plans, and home care.

7. Requests consultation or referral with other health care providers as needed and schedules follow-up appointments.

8. Works with nursing faculty and students.

9. Assists the research team to gather needed data for grant reporting.

10. Actively maintains knowledge of current medical research and trends and supports research projects.

11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
