Summary: This MRI Research Technologist position is a part-time position, with an estimated 24hrs per week, with the expectation this individual will be scheduled for evening and weekend shifts. The MRI Research Technologist will report to the Lead MRI Research Technologist. They will run MRI scans at the recently established Northeastern University Biomedical Imaging Center (NUBIC), located in the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC) on Columbus Avenue. Responsibilities will include to operate the MRI scanner for MRI research studies as outlined by the study protocol; conduct and maintain research procedures (including safety protocols); work closely with research study groups to ensure success as outlined in the study design; run scanner quality assurance testing; perform MRI scanner troubleshooting; and work closely with the Lead MRI Research Technologist on day-to-day operation of the center. Technical background in MRI scanning is imperative and the applicant should be ARRT certified and registered with at least 2-years of experience. Some research scanning experience is preferred.
Qualifications: This position requires at least 2-years of experience as an MRI Technologist, preferably with some experience in advanced/research MRI scanning.
The candidate is required to have the following minimum education: a graduate of an ARRT approved Radiology and/or MR training program; be an ARRT registered technologist with advanced MRI Certification; and they must have a Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License. The candidate should also have a current BLS Certification.
A great deal of analytical skill is required to ensure high quality scans. The ideal candidate must be able to analyze subject position, scanner performance, and scanning methods as they relate to the scanning protocol and perform miscellaneous troubleshooting to provide quality scans that meet the needs of the research protocol.
Job Duties:
MRI Scanner Operations (50%)
Execute basic and advanced scan protocols related to brain imaging
Apply knowledge of data analysis in informing good scanning procedures
Troubleshoot common problems and run scanner quality assurance testing
Move/archive/print imaging data
Provide routine maintenance of scanner
Ensure compliance with all safety requirements
Conduct research procedures (50%)
Work closely with research study groups to ensure success of study design
Collaborate with investigators, students, and staff on research
Screen, brief, and motivate human subjects
Ensure research activities comply with the IRB protocols
Interact with the Web based scanner scheduling system
