About the Opportunity
Northeastern University Library's Digital Production Services department (DPS) is looking for a part-time digital production assistant. DPS is a collaborative department that encompasses digitization, metadata for digital collections, and the support for the digital repository. We also work closely with the Northeastern University Archives and Special collections.
This position will report to the Digital Production Librarian and will have more of a digitization focus. The person in this position will reformat, create metadata, and transcribe captions for library and archival materials. Northeastern's special collections document diverse populations of some of Boston's many neighborhoods. Collections we've worked with recently include the records of Freedom House, the Lower Roxbury Black History Project, and the Stull and Lee, Inc. records.
Responsibilities include:
Digitizing archival documents using Epson Expression 12000XL and Bookeye 4 scanners
Creating MODS metadata in spreadsheets for digitized items
Reformatting A/V materials (such as VHS tapes and DVDs) and creating access copies using FFmpeg
Performing quality control on materials digitized by vendors
Transcribing and formatting captions for digitized videos using GBH's Cadet tool and Whisper
Other duties as projects and interests allow

Preferred qualifications:
Experience in the digitization of flat items or A/V materials
Experience working with archival or special collections materials
Experience with metadata for library or archival collections
This is an unbenefited position of up to 18 hours per week at $19/hour.
