Associate Adjunct Professor for Maternal & Child Nutrition
Position Overview: The salary range for this position is $74,600 -$145,400. 'Off-scale salaries', i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.
This position involves predominately research and scholarly activities as well as participation in teaching within the designated expertise of Maternal and Child Nutrition. The Nutrition department will be compensating for the teaching portion of the appointment, while the research portion of the appointment will be self-funded. It is expected that the candidate will bring funding with them for a 2 year, 50% variable position (depending on funding). The rank and step will be determined by experience. Renewal of this position is contingent on funding being available for the research portion of the appointment.
NATURE AND PURPOSE
a. Titles in the Adjunct Professor series may be assigned: (1) to individuals who are predominantly engaged in research or other creative work and who participate in teaching, or (2) to individuals who contribute primarily to teaching and have a limited responsibility for research or other creative work; these individuals may be professional practitioners of appropriate distinction. Appointees with titles in this series also engage in University and public service consistent with their assignments.
b. Appointees may serve full-time, part-time, or at 0 percent time.
c. Adjunct Professor titles are intended to be supported primarily by non-State funds. For purposes of this policy, non-State funds are all funds other than General funds (19900-19999).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE
I. TEACHING (30%) This position will participate in the ongoing instruction for the Master of Advanced Studies in Maternal and Child Nutrition (MCN) Program. Specifically, the incumbent will serve as the instructor of record or co-instructor of record for two podium courses (typically MCN 262 or 263 and 265 but may change as needed) of the program's courses, help facilitate student seminars, and provide occasional lectures in other courses in the MCN program and the department.
II. RESEARCH AND CREATIVE WORK (60%) Conduct an independent research program on projects within their area of expertise in Maternal and Child Nutrition where they will foster collaboration among Nutrition Department faculty and graduate students. They will seek grant funding for these projects, as Associate Adjunct Professors are self-funded for their research.
III. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5%) The candidate will provide intellectual leadership and scholarship to their programs. The candidate will participate in professional societies, organizations, and conferences appropriate to their specific field. The candidate may give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups, or at seminars, meetings, or educational functions.
IV. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5%) The candidate will do committee work relevant to the interests and the departmental needs. The candidate will participate in the administration of their units and the University through appropriate roles in governance and policy formulation. In addition, they may represent the University in their special capacity as scholars during the discharge of their responsibilities.
