The incumbent develops age and diagnosis appropriate plan of care to meet the needs of patients based on needs assessment, patient interests, objectives of therapy, and overall improvement goals for the patient's mental and physical well-being. Incumbent uses leisure activities, especially structured group programs, to improve and maintain the patient's general health and well-being.

Required Qualifications:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Strong ability to handle and cope with mental and emotional stressors
Demonstrated experience working with patients of various ages
Demonstrated experience in assessing program needs and developing therapeutic recreation interventions
BLS certification upon hire
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field
Minimum 1 to 2 years' experience working in an inpatient program as a Recreational Therapist
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) from the National Accrediting Association or Recreation Therapist Certification issued by the California Board of Recreation Therapy Certification
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness
Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
