Responsibilities
The Department of Anthropology at Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct to teach Biological Anthropology and Biological Anthropology Lab at our Moraga campus for Spring 2024.
ANTH 107 and 107L, Biological Anthropology and Lab
Class: Mondays & Wednesdays, 12:05-1:20pm
Lab: Wednesday, 2:00-5:00pm
Biological Anthropology Laboratory (ANTH-107L) is the corresponding laboratory for Biological Anthropology (Anth 107) which will study the variation and evolution of the human species and its place in the world. The course explores why we see broad variations among homo sapiens and how these variations affect humans in their life cycle, health and culture. In the class, students will engage in the systematic study of human variation and learn about evolutionary processes and the adaptability of humans to environmental pressures. Students will collect, analyze, and interpret empirical data related to human evolution and students will learn how the application of scientific knowledge can shed light on social and ethical issues.
This laboratory offers students hands-on experience with the topics discussed in Anth 107. (Concurrent enrollment in Anth 107 is required.)
Qualifications:
Candidates must be ABD or have Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology or a related discipline. Candidates should have a successful record of teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Teaching experience in biological anthropology is preferred, and experience teaching in another anthropology subfield is desirable.
Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $9,929-$13,744 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
