Position description The University of California, San Diego, Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery (https://surgery.ucsd.edu/divisions/pediatric/index.html) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and seeks to recruit Pediatric Surgeons.
The UC San Diego Division of Pediatric Surgery has a robust clinical practice. It serves the children of San Diego County through the Medical Practice Foundation at Rady Children's Hospital. Research, education, academics, clinical care and advocacy for children are all priorities of the division. The division's ACGME approved UCSD/Rady Pediatric Surgery fellowship program on the Rady Campus supports two clinical fellows and a complement of residents.
Rady Children's Hospital of San Diego is a state of the art facility which provides comprehensive pediatric surgical care to the region. The University of California San Diego provides an academic environment which will allow candidates to thrive and pursue their academic, educational and research interests. The City of San Diego offers excellent weather and the ability to participate in a multitude of outside interests which are important for a balanced life. The current team of pediatric surgeons is very stable. While continuing to support the clinical enterprise, they have increased their involvement in educational and research activities in recent years.
The successful candidates will provide clinical care, teaching and contribute to research and advocacy efforts. In addition, candidates will help develop the subspecialty emphasis in an area such as Surgical Critical Care, Fetal, Bariatric or Oncologic Surgery.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.
As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have a MD or equivalent.
Candidates must be Board certified or Board eligible in Pediatric Surgery.
Candidates must also be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California Additional qualifications (required at time of start) Candidates must have completed an ACGME accredited or approved fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the time of the appointment start date.
