Job Summary

The Curatorial Assistant II reports to the Curatorial Associate in the Department of Mammalogy in the Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ). Position Description

The Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) is seeking to hire a part-time Curatorial Assistant II in the Department of Mammalogy. Reporting to the Curatorial Associate, this position supports the mission within the Department of Mammalogy through curatorial duties. The position will aid with general curatorial functions related to fresh, dry, fluid, and frozen mammal specimens. General curatorial functions include but are not limited to the following: Preparing new specimens, identifying, and cataloging specimens, database use, specimen curation, pest management, loans, aiding visitors, creating, and maintaining records, imaging specimens, and light cleaning / maintaining workspaces.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience working in a natural history museum collection or a year of college coursework in zoology, biology, evolution, or other closely related fields (e.g., geology, paleontology).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

BA/BS preferred. College background in biology, mammalogy, or museum studies. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience working with collection database management programs (e.g., MCZbase, GEOLocate) and web interface required. Experience with data processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Knowledge of PC computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel in addition to demonstrated comfort with learning new software applications. Ideal candidate will show great attention to detail, be self-motivated, and have the ability to work as part of a team. Should be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
