The Extension Public Health AmeriCorps (E-PHAC) part time members will be a part of a unique one-of-a-kind program in the state of Ohio. E-PHAC members will serve in a hub located across the state in OSU Extension offices. Working in teams of 2 the member will engage community stakeholders, including youth, to determine through input and assessment a public health-oriented issue that impacts the whole community and work with a team of youth to plan, implement and report on the service project.

The goals of the service projects include:

1. Addressing public health needs of local communities by providing support in state and local public health settings

2. Advancing more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities

3. Exposing youth to public health and other health related career opportunities

We are currently filling the following slots:

• Half-Time Slots (900 Hours/ 8-month commitment)
• Reduced Half-Time Slots (675 Hours/ 8-month commitment)

Job-Related Responsibilities:

• 60% Develop a community stakeholder advisory committee to assess community needs; identify underserved populations and work with Extension and local public health departments to identify appropriate schools and community organizations, recruit volunteers to plan, implement and report on public health-oriented service projects.
• 20% Combined training (E-PHAC, AmeriCorps, CDC)
• 10% Present E-PHAC to campus and local community organizations, and student groups.

Minimum Education Required

High school degree; bachelors degree preferred

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of high school diploma or GED
• 17 Years of age or older
• U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien
• Results of mandatory background check must enable you to effectively serve in duties of the position
• Have a valid drivers license, current auto insurance, a reliable vehicle, and able to make occasional trips to Columbus, OH for trainings & meetings.
• Attendance at mandatory E-PHAC orientation (virtually and in-person)
• Access to internet and technology to complete timesheets and attend virtual meetings.
• Ability to complete entire hours of commitment in contract period time
• Not be paid through Ohio State University on any other contracts or positions
