The mission of Residential Libraries is to provide their residents with library collections, programs, and services that support their recreational, cultural, and academic needs. There have been libraries in the residential halls at IU since 1940. We are proud to continue that legacy through the daily operation of 10 libraries on campus providing DVDs, equipment, games, and books to the residents.
Job Summary
Checks the drop box several times throughout and at the end of shift.
Performs customer services such as recognizing patrons when entering the library, answering the phone, and assisting patrons with finding materials and answering questions as needed.
Keeps accurate count of patrons who visit the library.
Shelves returned material and maintaining material in an orderly manner following RPSL procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned by library supervisor, including, but not limited to, processing new material, assisting with weeding, making, and setting up promotional projects such as monthly decorations and displays, and helping with events.

Working Conditions / Demands
The Library Assistant must be able to move boxes of book/books weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability moves books to high shelves. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$12.00 per hour
Work Hours
The Library Assistant position works the circulation desk for the libraries located in the residence halls.
Operating hours are: 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm, 7 days a week; (Campus View is opened from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm)
All libraries are closed during most campus holidays and breaks.
