The hourly rate is based on the time/day the faculty teaches.
benefits include: 25 hours of paid vacation for faculty having worked between 850 to 1,000 hours per year. 50 hours of paid vacation beyond 1,000 worked hours.
A teacher who teaches 1,000 hours in a year can join the medical insurance of the organization.

All faculty at Alliance Française of Washington DC are PART TIME HOURLY employees. There is no Full Time position.
All of the Alliance Française network’s French language courses -whether for higher education programs or for youth programs- are structured according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The CEFRL is the language and fluency level scale used in the European Union. It serves as the guideline for describing the level of fluency achieved by a foreign language learner and as a pedagogical guide for the teacher.
The Alliance Française of Washington, D.C. offers multiple courses within each CEFRL level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) either for General French Language Acquisition Classes, or for specific French Language workshops (Grammar, vocabulary, conversation, literature, cinema, news, TV5 Monde -based classes for oral comprehension, French for Business, French for Diplomacy... to name but a few)
All the textbooks used at Alliance française de Washington DC are published in France and are aligned on the CEFRL.
Higher Education Programs are held in-person for levels A1 and A2 and online from level B1 and up.
Higher Education General French Language Acquisition classes build onto each other. Each class has 32 hours of instructional time. Regular classes meet twice a week for eight weeks, two hours each time. Fast track classes meet twice a week for four weeks, 3.5 hours each time or once a week for four hours. Intensive classes meet four times a week for two weeks, four hours each time
Higher Education French language workshops Language workshops start at CEFRL level A2 to C1 (100+ through 500+ levels). Workshops have a total of 16 instructional hours and meet once a week for two hours each time.
For Youth Programs, most classes are held on Saturdays either in-person or online.
The school year is divided in three sessions: Fall, Winter and Spring. Classes meet once a week:
1 hour for children ages 1-5
1.5 hours for children ages 5-12
2 hours for children 12+
For ages 5+, students use books depending on their age and level. They keep the same books from September to June.
Alliance française of Washington DC also offers a small FLAM (French Native Speaker/French Heritage Speaker) for children who speak French at home but attend American schools.
In summer, we offer different programs: Saturday classes for little ones (ages 1 – 5); Summer Camps for Children ages 5-11; Reviews or Preps for Teenagers.
We are currently recruiting faculty for the following times and days:
Hours for Higher Education Programs:
Monday-Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00pm IN PERSON and
Saturdays, 9:00am-1:00pm ONLINE
Hours for Youth Programs:Saturdays, 9:00am-5:00pm IN-PERSON for both FLE and FLAM programs
All applicants must have a work permit. No sponsoring possible.
For a Faculty applying for a teaching position within the Adult - Higher Education Programs
Master in FLE (French as a Foreign Language) or DAEFLE (Diplôme d'Aptitude à l'enseignement du Français Langue Etrangère)
Or a successful track-record of having taught French as a Foreign Language for 3+ years in a higher education setting.
Habilitation as an Exam tester / Examiner for DELF DALF certifications is a PLUS
Knowledge of CECFRL descriptors, the levels, and use of the action-oriented pedagogy is a MUST: training can be provided if the applicant has 2+ years teaching French as a Foreign Language but not using the CEFRL, before being given a group to teach.
Expert Knowledge of SmartBoards
Knowledge of ZOOM and its functionalities
For an instructor position in the Children’s Programs, additional requirements apply:
Early Childhood Education diploma, DAEFLE option Children or experience teaching French in an elementary school in a francophone country
Or Degree from the French National Education System (CAPES, Instituteur) for the FLAM.

Knowledge of ZOOM and its functionalities
For all non-native speakers of French language wanting to teach French, additional requirements apply:
DALF C1 (minimum) or DALF C2 (preferred) as proof of fluency level for a non-native speaker of French.
