York Country Day School is seeking a Part-Time year-round School Nurse to begin August 2023. The School Nurse will be responsible for on-site recommendations and handling of health-related issues including direct interaction with children and families as well as policy and protocol review at the administrative level.
As the school's primary medical caregiver, the nurse supports the health and wellness of all students in grades PA-12. The nurse must be collaborative and able to work well on a team. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, the nurse delivers health services for students in a timely manner, offers assessment and medical referral, educates the community on important health issues, identifies health problems and collaborates with parents, primary care physicians, the YCDS athletic trainers, and teachers to develop student healthcare plans, and ensures the safety and health of the community. YCDS is particularly interested in candidates with experience in school health, pediatrics, concussion management, triage, and community health.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manages all health information and health care at school.
Communicates with parents/guardians in a timely manner regarding medical issues
Coordinates and supervises the in-school care of concussed students with their doctor, parents, division heads, school advisor, teachers and the YCDS athletic trainer.
Assures school compliance with Pennsylvania health and immunization forms and health policies.
Ensures that health-related school policies are followed and updated. This includes medical illness and counseling, blood borne pathogens, concussion and child protection policies.
Collaborates with school personnel and others to ensure delivery of training to faculty/staff in the following key areas: CPR/AED, Universal Precautions, Epi-Pen administration, medication administration, Narcan, and blood borne pathogens.
Documents student visits, physician notes and any other information using Blackbaud, the school's computerized database.
Is a contributing member of the school crisis team.
Distributes over-the-counter and prescription medications as necessary.
Administers infirmary budget.
Works together with the counselors and collaborates closely with the athletic trainers as a member of the counseling department.
Trains field trip chaperones on administration of medication in accordance with PA and local laws.
Safe disposal of biomedical waste.
Requirements:
The school nurse must be available on campus from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM each day. The position is a 12-month staff position. Responsibilities over the summer include review of PA student health forms, and being available during our Summer Camp. Salary is competitive and based on experience. Qualified candidates should be a Licensed RN with a current PA license or hold a BSN Degree. CPR certification with Red Cross instructor certification preferred. The school nurse must be technologically savvy in order to manage the online systems that communicate and distribute medical information.
