Job Summary
The WFIU/WTIU News Bureau seeks a part-time producer/newscaster to write, produce, and anchor newscasts during NPR's flagship afternoon news program, All Things Considered.
Works within local and network clock restrictions, prepares, writes and reads the state and local news contained within the program.
Assess the importance of any emergency information that needs to be aired live.
Checks wire services for additional local news material, updates newscasts with fresh reporting, and posts stories online throughout the afternoon and evening.
Performs this task in the main on-air studio of WFIU; the broadcast is aired live through the station's Indiana signal network, and streamed globally through the WFIU streaming service.
Performs content on the flagship national radio broadcast to WFIU listeners and provides local news content inserts.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree (or degree in progress) in journalism, media production, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
1 year of experience in broadcast or journalism related field
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Possess a valid driver?s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
SKILLS
Preferred
In-depth understanding of journalistic principles, particularly as they apply to public media
Hands-on experience in writing, reporting, editing, production and on-air delivery in radio and TV and for the web
Ability to produce a television or radio news story from conception to broadcast
Experience working with multi-platform technologies and the ability to adapt material to a variety of platforms while adhering to AP style guidelines
Ability to function in a fast-paced 24/7/365 news environment
Ability to assess national/international content, and adjust local news insert material accordingly
Ability to make independent decisions, since the programs are live
Working Conditions / Demands
Must be able to complete the functions of the job with or without an accommodation.
As mentioned in the "Qualifications" section, candidates must possess a valid driver's license with the willingness to drive as driving is a requirement of the role.
Additional Information
This is a part-time, temporary position (29 hour per week) which will be funded through December 1, 2023.

Advertised Salary
Selected candidate will be offered $14.00 per hour.
Work Hours
Role may involve occasional evening, weekend, and/or holiday work.
Usual hours are 1:00pm-6:30pm Monday through Friday.
