PART-TIME LITERACY TEACHER
The Orchard Center:
The Orchard Center (TOC) at Mackintosh Academy - Boulder provides students with dyslexia the opportunity to maximize their potential by strengthening their overall academic performance. By meeting them at their existing level and providing them with explicit, structured, and multisensory literacy instruction, these students will receive the literacy interventions they need to succeed while continuing to benefit from the breadth of Mackintosh’s programming. Students work in small groups with a student to teacher ratio of ~4:1 and receive individual and small group instruction. The overarching goal of The Orchard Center is to ensure that all students have the support they need to thrive in their current and future learning environments.
Position Summary:
The Orchard Center Literacy Teacher works in concert with The Orchard Center Director and other TOC teachers to provide explicit, structured, and multisensory literacy instruction to The Orchard Center students. TOC teachers also partner with students’ homeroom and specialist teachers to implement timely, clear, and targeted accommodations and interventions. TOC teachers are steady advocates for their students throughout the school day, helping to build confidence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ideal candidates are experienced teachers who are highly trained in language-based disability interventions. Training may include but is not limited to: Orton Gillingham Academy Trainings, IMSE Orton Gillingham Training, TCRWP, Wilson, LETRS, and more.
TOC Teachers will:
Provide individualized, explicit, structured, and multisensory literacy instruction for a target of 2- 2.5 hours per class grouping during every school day.
Identify, select, and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of TOC students.
Work closely with homeroom teachers and modify reading and writing units for TOC students.
Maintain a positive, safe, organized, and risk-taking learning environment.
Teach life-long learning strategies that help dyslexic learners succeed in all academic areas.
Provide continuous academic feedback, support, and education to the families of students.
Empathize with a student’s frustration and will never give up on them.
Teach students to feel confidence and advocate for themselves as unique learners.
Model making mistakes and create a safe environment for risk-taking.
Work closely with homeroom teachers and provide timely, clear, and targeted accommodations.
Use evidence-based best practices and progress monitoring.
Work collaboratively with The Orchard Center Director and other TOC teachers.
The Orchard Centerwill focus on instructional areas & curriculum including:
Reading: accuracy, fluency, comprehension through the Orton Gillingham approach.
Writing through Orton Gillingham, Writing Workshop, Framing Your Thoughts
Phonemic Awareness through Heggerty Phonemic Awareness.
Phonics, spelling, word study, and vocabulary through the Orton Gillingham approach.
Handwriting through Handwriting Without Tears.
Read Aloud - various and diverse texts.
Benefits:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Masters preferred. Knowledge of gifted children is a plus.
Salary range: $53,000 - $76,000 for 100% FTE which represents 1-30 years of lead teaching experience. This position will be 35% or 70% FTE and salary will be prorated based on FTE

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred.
Prior experience as a classroom and/or academic teacher preferred (at any K-8th levels).
