The Section is currently seeking a Section Executive Director to assist in all manner of Section business under general supervision of the Section Chair and Section Board of Trustees (Board). This position is responsible for the general management of the affairs of the Section, coordinating daily activities of the Section, and implementing Section strategy and goals.
Responsibilities:
Section Executive Director responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintaining the Section’s primary telephone number, email address(s), and postal address;
Establishing and maintaining Section administrative & historical records;
Maintaining and managing the Section calendar of events;
Management of third party vendors, including website content manager;
Developing and maintaining an effective communication program for the Section membership, Board, and Committee Chairs, including regular e-newsletters, LinkedIn posts, etc.;
Maintaining the Section Roster;
Preparing and distributing meeting minutes;
Organizing and facilitating training seminars or workshops for membership;
Serving as the primary point of contact for outside entities and the American Water Works Association (Association), and responding to inquiries directly and/or routing to the appropriate Section member or Association staff;
Attending Association conferences and meetings as requested;
Oversee the coordination and planning of annual conferences and exhibits, education seminars/symposia and all Section events to ensure a smooth and successful operation;
Collaborate with Board to develop strategies and implementation plan for improved organization, direction, and services of the Section with the approval and guidance of the Board.
Make recommendations and implement policies or procedures as needed with the approval and guidance of the Board.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a 4-year college with a degree in management, business administration, or related with at least 7-10 years of association management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation is preferred but not required.
Intermediate to advanced basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office product suite, conference management software, website content management, and Google web tools such as Workspace.
Be able to effectively work in an environment with flexible working dynamics and new leadership annually.
Working experience and/or substantial knowledge of a nonprofit entity’s organization, structure, and functionality; with strong preference for experience in the water industry.
Possession of a valid State of Missouri driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one within three (3) months of employment.
Reside in or be willing to relocate to the State of Missouri.
Willingness and ability to travel multiple times per year within and outside the state, including furnishing of your own reliable vehicle. (Approved travel for Section business is reimbursed.)
Bondable by a bonding agency.
Position will be partially remote, with an average of one in-person event or meeting each month.

The Missouri Section of the American Water Works Association (Section) is dedicated to the promotion of public health and welfare through safe and reliable drinking water quality and supply. The Section supports drinking water professionals in the state of Missouri by advancing the knowledge of design, construction, operation, and management of public water treatment systems and developing standards for procedures, equipment, and materials used by public water supply systems.The Missouri Section has approximately 700 members consisting of water professionals from utility/operations, consulting, manufacturing, and construction/contracting.
