Position Summary
SHPEP, Program Facilitators will assist with managing pre-health science courses and general program execution for all program scholars. Participating scholars are undergraduate students (rising sophomores and Juniors at the time of the program) from diverse backgrounds who generally have varying skillsets and require guidance for education advancement and career exploration. Ideal candidates for the SHPEP Program Facilitator positions are those interested in working with students who fit the demographics previously described. SPREP, Program Facilitators will assist with managing math and science courses for middle and high school students. Participating students come from diverse backgrounds and generally have varying skillsets. Ideal candidates for the SPREP Program Facilitator positions are those interested in working with students who fit the demographics previously described. This is a great opportunity to assist with exercising curriculum construction, establishing/executing course instruction and differentiation skills. Course offerings will include, but may not be limited to Algebra, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Ready for Pre-Med, and College Readiness.
Responsibilities
ODMA Summer Program Facilitators will be responsible for assisting with the supervision, guidance and education of college students enrolled in the summer program. Specific responsibilities will require that Program Facilitators:
Understand the overall goals and objectives of the program.
Attend job orientation and training sessions (dates to be determined).
Participate in orientation session for program scholars.
Be available for the entire duration of the program.
Lead a small group of approximately 10 students within the entire cohort.
Take attendance at classes and program sessions.
Assist with grading course assignments (including pre-test, mid-terms, finals, and quizzes).
Serve as facilitator for Accelerated Learning Skills workshops, Narrative Medicine and Career Development and Information. Resources sessions, and (2) additional science courses.
Attend and provide support for all program sessions (to include setup of presentations and introduction of speakers).
Attend weekly meetings with preceptors and program administrators.
Coordinate and host social activities for program scholars.
Support residential life activities of the program.
Complete general clerical duties as assigned.
Provide feedback regarding interactions with program scholars.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma.
Other Requirements
Affiliation with Columbia University through a graduate level program.
Education and training in science and/or mathematics.
Demonstration of leadership and organizational skills.
