The John Glenn College of Public Affairs is seeking an Adjunct Professor to teach undergraduate students in the Washington Academic Internship Program. Course assignments will include PUBAFRS 4020: Contemporary Issues in Governance and PUBAFRS 4021: Research Paper.

Position requirements:

Teaching skills with an understanding of curriculum development, assessments and learning goals.

Expert-level knowledge in the subject area.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Comfort with technology such as online learning systems, online class software and grading systems as well as the Microsoft Office suite.

The ability to collaborate with colleagues.

Analytical and observational skills.

Creativity to make lessons interesting and find new ways to present information.

Job responsibilities:

Lecturing and teaching the material presented in the course syllabi in a professional and engaging way that helps students learn and encourages them to come to class regularly. Assigning grades and assessing student progress, potential and achievement in concrete, understandable ways to ultimately help the student progress toward a degree. Maintaining appropriate records in an organized, efficient manner for each class taught, and have this information prepared for students at all times. Cultivating a desire to build relationships, finding solutions to problems and being helpful and friendly at all times. Creating a classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and learning. Setting up assessments based on departmental regulations and requirements. Preparing students for assessments and providing helpful performance feedback including recommending additional readings and providing advice to students. Providing extra support to students who require it and scheduling consultation times where questions and concerns can be voiced. Keeping up to date with advancements in the field and integrating new knowledge into lessons. Answering students questions and providing timely feedback on assignments and essay drafts.

Requirements

A minimum of a masters degree is required

Incumbents must demonstrate empathy and care for their students success. Candidates need to be flexible, able to adapt to changing situations, and possess superb interpersonal, observational, and communication skills as well as patience, understanding, and empathy. Essential skills include knowing how to read students, what works well for them, and how to appropriately adjust teaching methods. Candidates must have several years of real-world experience as well as teaching experience, which could be as a teaching assistant, training experience in industry, such as training new employees or creating and presenting training sessions.
