Burke’s offers competitive compensation with a salary range of $66,028 - $144,571 based on years of experience plus advanced degree stipends. Both are prorated for 0.8 FTE. Comprehensive benefits are provided. More information about the school can be found on the website at www.burkes.org.

Position Description
The math specialist will partner with Burke's three Upper School (5th-8th grade) math teachers to support differentiated instruction to reach a broad range of learners. This position also focuses on curriculum development with an eye toward ensuring the Upper School math program at Burke’s is student-centered, focuses on inquiry-based learning, and sets students up for success in applying their math knowledge to the world around them. The math specialist role is 0.6 FTE. For the 2023-2024 school year, this person will need to teach one section of 8th grade math, which will be 0.2 FTE.
Job Responsibilities include:
Teaching one section Upper School Math (0.2 FTE):
Formally assessing and reporting on student progress three times per year using checklist/narrative report cards
Providing extra-help sessions during and after the school day, as needed o Planning and supervising field trips relevant to curriculum
Math Specialist (0.6 FTE):
Modeling strategies for differentiated instruction to reach both students who need extra support and those who are ready for an extra challenge (deepening and extending current material vs. accelerating)
Providing resources, tools, and strategies for differentiated instruction o Supporting math teachers in the planning of lessons and units as the year unfolds
Co-teaching with math teachers
Providing small-group math instruction to students
Meeting with math teachers by and across grade-level to discuss curriculum, assessment, and student work
Facilitating Math Olympiad-like math group(s) for students who want to go deeper and grapple with different types of problems
Communication:
Effective communication with colleagues in support of a collegial and collaborative professional community
Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to foster a strong partnership with families
Collaboration:
Participate in regular math team meetings in addition to attending faculty meetings
Contribute to curriculum development and revision
Supervisory duties as needed

Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, preferably math-related
Experience teaching at middle school level
