FAMILIES, SCHOOLS & NEIGHBORHO (IN-FSNE-IUINA)

The IUPUI Office of Community Engagement (OCE), Family School and Neighborhood (FSNE), is the IU Student Success Corps (IU SSC) program management unit responsible for tutoring and mentoring, college and career readiness for K-12 students in Marion County and statewide.

The IU Student Success Corps program is hiring individuals who want to support the academic and social-emotional growth of kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12) students by serving as a tutor and mentor. This part-time position requires travel to schools and community centers in Marion County for in-person student support.

General Responsibilities

• Provides both academic and socio-emotional support to K-12 students
• Builds effective and caring relationships with K-12 students as well as school staff
• Assesses students' needs through observation, engagement, and attention to detail
• Inputs and tracks data within data management system on each tutoring/mentoring session
• Maintains confidentiality to student information and data
• Attends monthly scheduled professional development sessions
• Responds to e-mails and other communications promptly
• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

Required

• High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred

• Associates or Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• Experience in K-12 education

Preferred

• Prior K-12 education experience including, but not limited to, tutoring/ mentoring experience

SKILLS

Required

• Ability to work collaboratively with students and staff of diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Must be patient, empathetic, and willing to used evidenced based tutoring/mentoring strategies
• Capable of cataloging notes from tutoring/mentoring sessions
• Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and school staff
• Skilled in problem solving and communication(verbal and written)
• Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with students, families and fellow IU SSC colleagues
• Demonstrated professionalism

Preferred

• Bilingual
• Knowledge of and experience with urban school setting, social services, youth development or community development

The person in this role must be able to work a set schedule each week and be able to commit to at least one (1) K-12 semester in this position.

Part-time position requires travel to schools and community centers.

Assigned School or Community Center.

Schedules are set each semester and based off applicant availability, which must be between 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.
