The Position:
The School is seeking a Head Coach – Squash to complement and support a dynamic and high-functioning Athletics Department. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach – Squash will lead the St. Michaels University School (SMUS) squash program, which provides opportunities to all students in Grades K-12.
Our Athletic Program includes both a competitive and recreational stream that supports a multi-sport approach to athlete development. The SMUS’ squash season runs from September to April with training occurring between the hours of 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM on weekdays and weekends. Over the course of the school year, the Head Coach – Squash works approximately 850 hours.
In addition to the scope of this position, there is opportunity to provide private coaching, and to run squash camps during school breaks.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:
National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) an asset.
Experience coaching competitive squash at the provincial and/or national level.
Teaching certification an asset.
Experience coordinating and planning both competitive and recreational programming for squash.
Experience in coordinating league and tournament play.
Familiarity with Canada’s Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Google Drive.
Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member.
Responsibilities include:
Plan, teach, assess and report on a squash program, Grades K-12.
Lead and coordinate a squash program that includes recreational and competitive pathways.
Collaborate with other coaches, faculty and staff.
Communicate with parents on a regular basis.
Demonstrate sport values in a school-based setting.
Participate in SMUS Coaching Staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
Other related duties.
