Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Advanced Practice Provider, the Advanced Practice Provider - VHO (NP/PA) will provide services to the Emergency Medicine Department, College of Physicians, and Surgeons at NYP/Westchester Hospital. Individual will perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation of patients. Individual will participate in performance improvement, research, and educational activities.
Responsibilities
Obtain patients' history, perform physical examinations, and order and evaluate appropriate laboratory, radiographic and electrocardiographic studies.
Review laboratory results and other clinical information pertinent to patient health, order appropriate tests and other ancillary services as needed, and develop care plans for patients.
Assist in the management of medical and surgical emergencies.
Assist the attending physician with any procedure falling within the APP???s scope of practice.
Initiate subspecialty consultations or evaluations.
Counsel and instruct patients and their families.
Render appropriate care in the presence of a life-threatening emergency when a physician is unavailable and document all care rendered in accordance with ER policies and procedures.
Ensure all medical records and notes are countersigned by the attending physician.
Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts. Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.
Functions within the standards of practice established by the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Practice. Acts within the policies and procedures of the University, hospital, division, and clinical department.
Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance, and safety guidelines.
Performs other related duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires bachelor/masters degree from an accredited APP program, plus 3 to 5 years of experience.
Current New York State professional license
Board certification as
NY Registered DEA
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Emergency Medicine, internal medicine and urgent care preferred
Evidence of foundational knowledge surrounding evidence based practice, medical conditions, diagnostic studies and patient screening
Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent clinical thinking
Experience in working collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Spanish language skills
Must be able to care for pediatric and adult patients
Other Requirements
Successful completion of systems training and compliance requirements
