Patrol Officer (Part-time) DEPARTMENT OF CAMPUS SAFETY
POSITION SUMMARY: The Patrol Officer provides protection for people and properties on Vanguard University's campus. The Patrol Officer, in motor vehicle and/or on foot, will patrol roadways, walkways, parking lots, administration buildings, academic halls, and resident buildings located on Vanguard University property. The Patrol Officer ensures that activity logs are maintained and updated accurately in a timely fashion. The Patrol Officer conducts the initial investigations into reported crimes and incidents occurring on Vanguard property and submits appropriate reports pertaining to the investigation. Due to the nature of the position, the Patrol Officer may be asked to testify in court. The Patrol Officer responds to requests for routine and emergency medical assistance and renders first aid and/or CPR when necessary. It is the Patrol Officer's duty to enforce the California Penal and Vehicle codes on campus, as well as the University traffic and parking regulations and to investigate traffic accidents on campus and properly report. The Officer will also conduct student safety training, fire drills and evacuation procedures. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Public Safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Respond to campus emergencies and calls for service. Provide limited medical assistance when required. Secure campus buildings and allow authorized personnel entrance to secured facilities. Direct and control traffic and parking patterns / enforcement including issuing citations, towing vehicles, and providing limited assistance to persons experiencing car trouble. Conduct standard patrol to be visible, observant and precautionary concerning unusual circumstances. Investigate anything of a suspicious nature and/or any suspected criminal activity. Report safety hazards to appropriate persons. Provide safety escorts to individuals. Detain and arrest individuals suspected of committing a crime on Vanguard University property. Provide skilled public relations with campus community and visitors. Maintain current information in Police Log as required by the 1990 Student Right to Know Act. Responsible for timely activity log entries and incident reports with clarity and accuracy. Comply with all department policies and procedures. Participate in the development and support of other employees assigned near this position. Identify risks to the organization within the department and discuss risk reduction options with immediate supervisor. Perform related duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Campus Public Safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Guard card from Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Current valid driver's license. Current first aid/CPR certificate or the ability to renew. Ability to train new officers and effectively communicate to peers, college personnel and the public. Able to patrol 37-acre campus on foot and / or motor vehicle and make physical arrests when necessary. Willingness to work alternative shifts as needed. Has knowledge and acceptance of principles and philosophies of Vanguard University and maintains a lifestyle in consonance with sound Christian principles.
SALARY: Part-time, 20 hours per week, partial-benefited position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
