POSITION:

PART-TIME REFERENCE LIBRARIAN: The University Library is seeking an innovative, highly motivated, and service-oriented librarian to provide part-time virtual reference support in support of student success initiatives. Scheduling for days and evenings up to 10 hours per week arranged according to the needs of the Library and individual availability. The temporary appointment ends May 2023. Library faculty report to the Dean of Library Services.

The Research Librarian plays a crucial role in student success and contributes to the University Library's mission - to provide access to information resources and services that facilitate teaching, learning and research, and to provide an environment that encourages and enables those in our diverse community to expand their intellectual, cultural and artistic horizons.

Situated at the heart of the campus community, the newly renovated J. Burton Vasch Library provides a fresh and welcoming gateway to library, technology, and student learning services. The state-of-the-art building offers over 1,000 study seats, 21 group study rooms, quiet and silent study areas, two computer commons, and houses many partner-units.

Essential duties include:

Provide research assistance virtually throughout the academic year 2022/23, by appointment, and through web-based interactive services.

Guide students, faculty and staff in the effective use of library services and resources for their research online.

Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies, and procedures through video-conferencing platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Possible opportunity to create online instructional tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

ALA-accredited or equivalent graduate degree if earned from outside the U.S. or Canada.

Experience in providing reference services in an academic or large public library.

Knowledge of traditional and electronic reference sources.

Experience assisting others with library databases and online searching.

Experience using Springshare LibApps products or an equivalent library web application.

Strong service orientation; effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues and students in a culturally diverse academic community.

Ability to be flexible and to adapt to a changing work environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience designing online instructional guides, tutorials, or videos.

Experience developing and delivering information literacy instruction.

Strong understanding of accessibility and copyright issues.

Experience using Zoom and Microsoft Teams to assist students.
