The job of the School Nurse is to provide a robust health program for the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of the health of students. The School Nurse will support the nursing office in its daily functions at CATS Academy Boston. The School Nurse will be responsible for administrative support, transportation support, administering first aid to students, assisting with the development of policies and procedures at the school and dorms, scheduling and accompanying students to medical appointments, and identifying areas of improvement to the care of students. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the school nurse will support the day-to-day running of the Health Office under CEG policies.

Main Responsibilities
To provide confidential health advice to individual students.
Assess students who come to the Nurse’s office, administer first aid, arrange medical appointments or, if appropriate, send them to their classes if they are believed to be well enough.
Ensure that all student health records are current and each student has the proper exams and vaccinations, as required by the State of Massachusetts.
Keep accurate records of all visits and dispensed medication
Communicate to parents and agents regarding any needed vaccinations, exams, or forms.
Maintain the nurse’s office, including keeping the room hygienic and comfortable, ensuring excellent supervision of students, and maintaining and ensuring adequate supplies.
Communicate with other staff members regarding students' welfare, but recognize the importance of confidentiality.
Contact in consultation with the teachers and/or the Head of School, parents or guardians to secure information relating to a student’s health and to comply with Massachusetts state legal requirements.
To assist in promoting health focus on:
Exercise and healthy eating
Dealing with stress
Mental health and wellbeing, including depression and bullying
Sexual health and relationships
Drug and alcohol abuse and smoking
Maintain communication with the school physician and other practitioners to promote and maintain students’ health and welfare.
Maintain all medical records on Magellan and Magnus, the Academy’s databases, of any matters related to the health and welfare of a student.
Respond to medical emergencies. Be available past regular work hours to bring a student to the emergency room, if necessary.
Transport students to doctors’ appointments using the school van.
Assist with the coordination of first aid training across the staff.
Assist with the development of policies and procedures within the nursing office.
Adhere strictly to the CATS Academy School Nurse Guidelines.
Help develop/revise school health policies, procedures, and standing orders.
Review, revise, and implement emergency policies, including personnel in-service health and safety programs.
Prepare first aid kits for each building and each dorm.
Skills, knowledge, and ability
Preparation and maintaining student health records on Magellan and Magnus.
Holding a current driving license and proper care insurance to drive the school vans.
School nursing practices are related to safe practice methods within boarding schools.
Production of individual health plans for young people with disabilities or long-term conditions.
Assistance with the audit of medical/care plans and risk assessments
General nursing care such as wound dressing and treatment of injured and sick students
Liaison with advisors and student services, who act as a main contact point between the school and parents/agents.
Work within the guidelines and policy and procedure requirements laid down by Academy policies in such matters as Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Risk Management, and Equality and Diversity.
Demonstrate day-to-day commitment to the Academy’s Core values of Excellence, Care, and Community.
Be required to carry out such reasonable additional duties as may be determined by the Head of School from time to time.
Participate in the Staff Appraisal Scheme as required and attend training and development appropriate to the role.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree
Licensed as a Registered School Nurse
Current certification in CPR and AED from a recognized provider
Experience working as a school nurse.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
A clear interest in being part of a global boarding community.

Has a positive impact on student and staff
Speaks clearly, sensitively, and persuasively when interacting with internal personnel.
