The Friends Select School Libraries seek candidates for the position of Library Intern to work a range of 20-24 hours per week. Anticipated start date is the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. The schedule is flexible but needs to fall within the range of a typical school day (8am-3pm) and requires consistency from week to week. This position reports to the Director of Libraries.
Responsibilities
Circulation
Shelving
Weeding
Processing books
Collaborating with librarians to assist with classes
Responding to student and faculty needs, such as help with printing, readers advisory, etc
Long term library projects including inventory, updating the library website, social media
Creating book displays and library promotion
Design a meaningful long term project that both benefits the intern’s educational goals as well as the library’s
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Enrolled in a Master’s Degree, ALA-accredited Library and Information Studies or related. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation and commitment to inclusiveness of diverse ideas and perspectives, and comfortable working with a wide range of youth populations
Evidence of self-motivation to address new challenges, ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and commitment to learn new knowledge and skills
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and welcoming work environment in both physical and digital spaces
Ability to lift up to 25lbs
Demonstrated ability to work with Google Workspace, as well as customized computer software and online computer systems
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Commitment to Quaker values, social justice and anti-racism
Pay range is $20-$25/hour, depending on experience.
