The Ursuline School is a private, independent, Catholic, college preparatory girls’ school, grades 6 through 12 located in New Rochelle, New York, 20 miles north of Manhattan in a diverse, suburban community.  The school was established in 1897 in the spirit of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Order.  The Ursuline School is part of a network of educators at secondary schools and colleges of the Ursuline Sisters across the United States and 36 countries. The Ursuline School has a Concert Choir for grades 9 - 10 and a Chamber Choir for grades 11 - 12.  The choir teacher instructs the Chamber Choir on Mondays and Tuesdays and the Concert Choir on Thursdays and Fridays.  Instruction is provided from 7:15 a.m. - 7:55 a.m. with the Choir Instructor being available from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. in addition to being available to communicate with students via email and attend music events as necessary.

Position: Upper School Choir Teacher

Reports to: Performing Arts Department Chairperson

Level: High School

Responsibilities:

• Teach the rudiments of proper vocal technique
• Interpret various styles of music
• Demonstrate all vocal passages in all sections to students as required
• Record and post parts for all sections of the choir and communicate daily with students on the student digital learning platform, MOODLE
• Utilize the Smartmusic platform as a resource for students
• Teach standard choral repertoire in all styles and various languages
• Teach sight singing and sight reading to all choral levels
• Prepare students for all concerts and school events on and off campus
• Prepare and conduct choral students for NYSSMA Majors Choral festivals
• Travel and direct choirs on national and international trips (possible trip to Rome, Italy in February 2023)
• Collaborate with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director to support DEI initiatives
• Organize and update the choral library
• Attend Performing Arts Department meetings

Experience/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in either Vocal Music or Music Education with a specialization in choral conducting
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Proficiency on piano (accompanying) preferred
• Prior high school experience preferred
• Teacher certification preferred
