General Summary:

The part-time mechanic is responsible for supporting the mechanics with maintaining a safe and clean work environment within the shop area. The part-time mechanic’s primary duties are to keep the shop facilities and fleet vehicles clean and organized. The part-time mechanic’s other duties include, but are not limited to sweeping, organizing the shop area, keeping a clean wash bay area, crushing used oil filters, checking oil levels on fleet vehicles, and washing and cleaning pool vehicles and other duties as assigned. As time allows, the part time mechanic may be involved in other duties such as changing tires, performing oil changes, assisting with repairs, and other general vehicle maintenance as assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Comply with established Dakota Electric Association safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Be responsible for reporting any un-safe practices and/or hazards to a supervisor, manager or Vice President. Visibly committed and actively involved in Dakota Electric’s safety programs, initiatives and performance.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment to protect oneself and others in accordance with all department guidelines and all applicable company safety rules.
• Must be able to operate different types of equipment such as vehicles, power operated equipment, and large trucks.
• Must be able to assist mechanics/lead mechanic on repairs to all types of equipment, including but not limited to; vehicles, trailers, power operated equipment as well as hand tools.
• Must be able to perform minor mechanic tasks including, but not limited to; tire changes, oil changes, car and truck washing, etc.
• Will be assigned a daily/weekly task list that is the part-time mechanic’s responsibility.
• Perform related work as apparent or assigned.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, courses or training related to vehicle repair/maintenance desired. One year of mechanical experience preferred.
