Family medicine is the medical specialty that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for individuals and families. This specialty integrates the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences and encompasses all ages and sexes, each organ system, and every disease entity. It is this combination that qualifies family medicine physicians to provide continuing and comprehensive medical care and health maintenance and preventive services to each member of a family regardless of patient type or problem be it biological, behavioral or social.
Family medicine physicians, because of their background and interactions with families, are best qualified to serve as a patients advocate in all health-related matters, including the appropriate use of consultants, health services and community resources.
Job Summary
The Research Assistant position is a unique learning experience within the Department of Family Medicine.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Assists in clinical research studies or trials following established protocols and standard operating procedures.
Assists in scheduling and enrolling patients, and ensures proper recording and archival of all regulatory documents.
Provides additional support as needed based on the research study.
Assists in the conduct of clinical research studies or trials following established protocols and standard operating procedures.
Assists in data collection.
Utilizes and runs reports in HER.
Schedules/calls subjects for appointments as directed; obtains screening information via phone or in person from script template for minimal risk studies; records and maintains screening and enrollment.
Ensures proper recording and archival of all regulatory documents, including informed consent forms for submission to regulatory agencies, files all appropriate correspondence.
Provides other various support for clinical research efforts (make copies, prepare paperwork for enrollment in studies).
In this role students will gain:

Exposure to the healthcare field by interacting with patients in a face-to-face environment.
Ability to manage time and prioritize.
Exposure to healthcare data collecting by entering patient sensitive data into the proper program.

EDUCATION
Required
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
SKILLS
Required
Must be reliable and able to manage time.
Ability to work independently and on a team.
Possesses basic computer skills (typing, emailing, entering information into a database).
Ability to maintain professional behavior.
Professional written and oral communication skills.
Shows a willingness and desire to learn.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires sedentary work for long periods of time.

IU Health Family Medicine Residency, University Hospital, IU Health Saxony and Avon locations
Work Hours
Must be able to work anytime within the hours of 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.
