The available, in-person classes are:
MATH 7: Mathematical Reasoning (MW 1:30-2:45pm)
MATH R: Quantway (MWF 1:30-2:45pm)
MATH S1: Statway 1 (TRF 8-9:15am)
MATH S2: Statway 2 (TRF 9:30-10:45am)
MATH 7: Mathematical Reasoning This course covers a practical breadth of mathematics, with a focus on math encountered in everyday life. It aims to show the relevancy and usefulness of mathematics and to make it meaningful by putting it in an appropriate context. In this course there is a focus on problem solving with a hands-on and learn-by-doing approach.
MATH R: Quantway Quantway is intended to prepare students for college-level math courses as well as for physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, and business courses. Quantway is a quantitative reasoning course that fulfills students' developmental mathematics requirements by integrating algebraic and quantitative skills and reasoning. Mathematical concepts are investigated through group problems and class discussions based on real-life contexts of citizenship, personal finance, and model literacy. Quantway is a special course created by the Carnegie Math Pathways. You can find more information about them here: https://www.carnegiemathpathways.org/
MATH S1, S2: Statway Students completing Statway will understand that data analysis is a process that begins with the formulation of a question that can be addressed with appropriate data, followed by the development of a thoughtful plan for identifying and collecting the necessary data. Students will know how data can be displayed and summarized in informative ways, and they will understand how the data can be used to draw conclusions in the presence of uncertainty. Statway is a special course created by the Carnegie Math Pathways. You can find more information about them here: https://www.carnegiemathpathways.org/
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: - Candidates must have at least a master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field - Candidates with experience teaching Carnegie Math Pathways (CMP) mathematics and use of the RealizeIt course platform
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) offers training in online teaching. CETL will evaluate adjuncts' past work to see if training is required. The successful candidates will have the chance to engage a very diverse community of learners and to work closely with a collegial group of experienced faculty.
If the candidate does not have experience with CMP: - Paid, mandatory online training with CMP/WestEd will take place daily from August 1 – August 4, 2022 from 9:00 – 10:30 am. This training will orient the new adjunct to CMP, introduce the Quantway Core curriculum and online course platform RealizeIt, and provide the opportunity for networking with other instructors who are new to the CMP curriculum. There may be some light work outside of the training hours to prepare for each day's workshop. - 2-3 additional one-hour trainings leading up to the beginning of the Fall 2022 semester with an HNU mathematics faculty will be required to fully orient the new adjunct to this role of teaching Quantway Core and Statway Core.
