Position Summary:
Shenk Shul, a vibrant, young community located in the middle of the Yeshiva University campus in Washington Heights, is looking for a dynamic, charismatic, and outgoing rabbi. Our membership is comprised of young professional couples, singles, and students. Our congregants are highly dedicated to Judaism, looking to grow spiritually and intellectually, and crave a sense of achudt and community. The shul desires a rabbi who will exercise leadership qualities and stimulate further growth within the shul itself, as well as reaching out beyond it to bring in new members.
Position Responsibilities:
The rabbi will be expected to deal with the general pastoral and lifecycle duties of the shul, as well as:
- Check the eruv each week
- Oversee the gabbaim
- Help find people to lain each shabbos as needed and organize daily, Shabbat, and Yom Tov minyanim
- Check the Sifrei Torah as needed
- Remain in shul for all Yom Tovim and important days that Shenk is open for (Yom Kippur, Shmini Etzeret/Simchat Torah, Tisha B'av, Shavuot)
- Attend Shenk social events
- Give a weekly shiur to the women of the community
- Give a weekly shiur to the men of the community
Experience & Educational Background:
A rabbi with RIETS semikhah and a proven record of accomplishment of reaching out to young people, with at least three years of experience, will be given more serious attention. The Rabbi should show initiative in continuing the work our previous rav has done in unifying the greater Washington Heights community.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong public speaking skills
- Understand confidentiality
- Familiarity with orthodox Jewish customs
