Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Division Head and the Varsity Girls Head Coach, the Girls Frosh/Soph Volleyball coach provides leadership and direction to help mold the girls volleyball program while adhering to Milken Community School rules and regulations. The Girls F/S Volleyball Coach must support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. They must support, encourage, and monitor student-athletes academic progress. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Provide overall leadership for the Milken Community School girls volleyball program and perform all services thereof as scheduled and/or directed by the Athletic Director and the Head Varsity Girls coach.
Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
Work with the Athletic Director and Head Girls Varsity Coach to develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
Assesses players skills and monitors players during competition and practice.
Determines game strategy to ensure success in competition.
Supervises athletes during practices and competition.
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Follows established procedures in the event of an athletes injury.
Responsible for the use, care, storage and inventory of all Milken athletic equipment issued for use by the athletic program including, but not limited to bats, balls and all other equipment necessary for practice and games/matches.
Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
Participates in special activities to include parents night, banquets, and award nights.
Performs support tasks such as maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
Adhere to all rules, regulations and policies as mandated by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and Milken Community School.
Promote the sport with students, alumni, and members of the community.
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Head Girls Varsity Coach.
Bachelors degree and at least three years of volleyball coaching experience.
Experience with student programs in a high school setting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
