Middle Tennessee State University, located in Murfreesboro, Tenn., is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Athletic Communications Intern position. MT is a proud member of Conference USA. The MT Athletic Department sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate teams. The compensation package for the position will be $1,600 per month for an 11-month period. Previous interns have landed full-time jobs at Alabama, Appalachian State, Baylor, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Tech, Kansas, LSU, Memphis, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, and West Virginia, among others.
Responsibilities The intern will work closely with the Associate Director of Athletic Communications and the Athletic Communications Assistant Directors in covering all 17 of Middle Tennessee’s varsity sports and will be the primary contact for assigned sports, serving as the liaison between the media, student-athletes and coaches. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, web site maintenance; writing and dissemination of press releases; layout and design of assigned game notes and game day programs using Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop; assist with day-to-day operations of the athletic communications office for home events; travel to select events if required; collect and maintain statistical information; update and maintain sports social media accounts; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Applicants with strong background in InDesign and Photoshop will be given top preference. The preferred applicant should posses an undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, public relations, sport management or related field; have previous athletic communications experience either as a student worker, graduate assistant, or intern; possess a working knowledge of StatCrew; have strong oral and writing skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of college athletics. Candidates must have knowledge in layout and design using Adobe InDesign or a similar program. Graphic design using Adobe PhotoShop is also a plus. Two years of experience as a sports information student assistant is preferred.
