Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking an exemplary Aquatics teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. We seek candidates who are passionate about progressive education, have a love of students and teaching, are innovative and knowledgeable about differentiated learning, and have strong aquatics teaching experiences. We place a high value on community and seek candidates who have excellent interpersonal skills who will work well with students, colleagues, and parents. This teaching position includes teaching swimming for beginning swimmers in preschool through middle school.

Knowledge and experience with progressive education philosophy and a constructivist pedagogical approach
Four year degree in Physical Education or related field
3-5 years experience teaching swimming
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in teaching swimming - particularly with a range of developmental ages
Experience with developing, implementing and teaching anti-bias and anti-racist curricula
Expertise in developing an engaging, collaborative classroom community that encourages problem solving, critical thinking skills, service learning and student leadership
A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community for students and adults, based on cultural competence, social justice, and respect for diverse perspectives and backgrounds
Capacity to address the developmental needs of academically motivated students
