Clinical Research Assistant provides not only services for the Clinical Research Unit, but also as a certified DXA technician/coordinator.
They spend approximately 40% of their time coordinating the care of DXA patients scheduled on the CRU for research and non-research reasons - care that includes independent review of the medical record for health history, further assessment of bone health history, technical completion and analysis of scan, and results reporting to MD.
Additionally, the Clinical Research Assistant tracks scans, provides census data for billing, and establishes/maintains SOPs for their practice. They spend approximately 50% of their time assisting nurses with their clinical research and standard-of-care tasks, including taking vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, transportation of subjects, and pick-up and delivery of drugs from the research and main pharmacy; and they assist with processing, storing and shipping of laboratory specimens.
The Clinical Research Assistant spends approximately 10% of their time assisting the unit in administrative tasks, such as taking inventory and ordering of supplies, copying and chart set-up, and fulfilling receptionist duties when the Unit Secretary is absent. As needed, they engage in coordination of prevention quality improvement measures and provide clinical and laboratory support for off-site visits.
They perform all functions in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Medical Center's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
Work InteractionsThe
Clinical Research Assistant receives direct supervision from a nurse who delegates appropriate tasks and reports directly to CRU Nurse Manager. They function autonomously and are the CRU expert in matters of DXA operation and procedures.
They also report to the DXA training coordinator or designee for scan training and sign off until they are certified and deemed competent. Once competent and certified, they work collaboratively with the Training Coordinator to accomplish goals of DXA services for the CRU.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science or equivalent
- Experience performing clinical assistant, phlebotomy, and clinical research assistant functions
- BLS certification
Preferred qualificationIV insertion skills and DXA experience
The candidate selected is expected to obtain International Society for Clinical Densitometry certification within the first year of employment, if they do not already have certification on date of hire.
