General purpose: The Site Coordinator works in coordination with the Program Manager to oversee all curricular, logistical, and faculty/staff components of the YPS program in conjunction with MICA’s Open Studies. The site Coordinator serves as a liaison between the students, families and the Open Studies office.

For more than 150 years, MICA has provided Baltimore’s young people (from kindergarten through grade 12) with a full array of classes tailored to their developmental needs and designed to inspire creativity through high- quality instructional experiences in the visual arts/design taught by instructors from around Maryland. MICA offers YPS programs at our MICA Mount Royal campus and at the Ward Center for the Arts at the St. Paul’s Schools and remotely online.

Summary of Essential Functions

• Logistical and managerial oversight of YPS program on location

• Implementation of program quality, goals and outcomes

• Implementation of Open Studies strategic plans for the YPS program

  Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coach, provide support/feedback to faculty as needed, and document student work for this purpose

  • Supervise summer program assistants, mentor and provide assessment

  • Preparation and Implementation of programming for designated YPS site in collaboration with Open Studies

  • Manage student and family information, attendance and emergency contact information on location

  • Implement safe procedures and logistics, train program assistants as needed

  • Communicate regularly with faculty/staff and support all learning needs

  • Manage the Site Coordinator summer YPS email efficiently and answer all email correspondence professionally and in a timely manner

  • Perform excellent customer service and support for families and students

  • Manage shared supplies and materials in collaboration with the Program Manager

  • Coordinate end of session exhibitions, communicate information to families and plan locations of displays

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of art education practices, pedagogy, and trends for the appropriate K-12 audiences

    • Skills: Excellent written, verbal and oral communication skills

    • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain calm settings and assist families with any needs/

      concerns

    • Ability to: reflect on and assess student work and experiences in order to provide coaching and feedback to faculty and staff in order to maintain standards and strengthen the program quality and experience

Minimum qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the art/design field

• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience working with school aged youth, preferably in an educational

  setting

  Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in the fields of art/design, art education, preferably a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
