The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement works in partnership with cross-campus teams to spearhead Siena’s DEIB activities and initiatives, to translate our strategy and culture into an impactful experience for all members of the Siena community. Reporting directly to the Executive Head of School, the Director is a member of the senior leadership team. As such, they are in a unique position to devise, influence, and mold long-term strategic plans to expand diversity and inclusion best practices through various programs and initiatives that align with Siena’s values and mission. In addition to creating internal cross-curricular programs and events, the Director will engage in community outreach to develop local, national, and international community-based partnerships. A strong understanding of the importance of multisensory and authentic learning is essential as experiential learning will be central to all DEIB work.
The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement will:
Collaborate with the Board, leadership and community stakeholders to identify strategic priorities for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
Partner with school leadership to enhance, create, and implement innovative programs to ensure equitable internal practices and support diversity at The Siena School. This includes recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.
Design, implement, and manage short- and long-term DEIB strategies, initiatives, and programs embedded in curriculum, pedagogy, and student life that will:
promote and enrich the participation of family, student, and faculty/staff groups to ensure an inclusive and effective environment that inspires life-long learning and engagement.
ensure that all students, faculty, and staff feel valued for their individual talents and unique cultural perspectives.
Represent Siena by establishing and maintaining relationships with external organizations and partners that align with Siena’s strategic DEIB commitments.
Create and moderate safe spaces for honest dialogue through a shared practice of cultural humility.
Serve as a resource on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for faculty/staff in their work with students and families, and in the development of curriculum and programs.
Support the design of DEIB education, training and workshops for all stakeholders and ensure current offerings are developed through an inclusive lens.
Establish benchmarks and metrics to ensure effectiveness of DEIB programming to promote meaningful, long-lasting integration. Reflection and assessment will guide and shape our efforts as the work in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging continues to evolve.
Qualifications
Advanced degree preferred
Demonstrated engagement in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives
A high degree of cultural competence and practice of cultural humility
Strong leader, facilitator and team player who works collaboratively
Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute strategies
Project management skills including the ability to develop and implement plans and timelines
Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Strong skills in managing and analyzing data, generating reports that translate into meaningful action items
Effective relationship builder with a team-oriented approach to solving challenges
Continuous learner who will stay up to date on DEIB best practices and organizational culture/employee experience

The Siena School has become a national leader in educating bright, college-bound students with mild to moderate language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia. With growing enrollment of 130+ students in grades 4-12, including 40% students of color, the school is opening a second campus in Northern Virginia this Fall 2021.
