The PAS Specialist supports the Department of Dermatology by providing exceptional customer service through prompt and professional communication skills, exceptional phone service, and excellent problem solving skills. Duties include:
Schedules patients primarily through phone contact, gathers and records required information about patients
Answers phone calls and assists patients in an office or clinic setting, providing an exceptional level of customer service to external and internal customers
Confirms health insurance coverage and individuals obligations, obtains necessary authorizations for care, schedules physician office and ancillary appointments, and assists patients in an office or practice setting
Monitors and maintains medical records for patients to be compliant with current polices, standards and procedures
Helps to create a collaborative environment by integrating education, research, and clinical leadership
Cross-train and cover for other PAS Specialist positions as needed
Complete successfully the required PAS initial training and core competency assessment before and during the trial service period. Complete all required update modules. Maintain core competencies and demonstrate continuous application of these skills through the period of employment.
Six months of work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume direct patient contact; OR one year of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position
Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills with strong relationship building skills
Exceptional customer service skills, both in person and on the phone
Basic computer skills
Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and urgent patient and system needs
Demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance
High school diploma or GED
Experience working in a health care setting
Previous scheduling experience using Epic
Working knowledge of medical terminology
