Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads â“ both students and employers â“ for 50 years.Â It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force.Â TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions.Â The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCCâ™s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.Â Position Summary:Â To creatively assess and meet the mail service needs of Tidewater Community College, to actively support the College's vision by providing our customers with comprehensive and quality mail services, to strive for continual improvement in the receipt, and distribution process, to ensure timely and economical receipt, and distribution of U.S. Mail and inter-campus mail and packages in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.Â Functional Responsibilities:Â Receiving, sorting, and posting of incoming and outgoing inter-college and U.S. mail daily. This includes letters, packages, boxes, magazines, and newspapers for mailing out and delivery to various locations in the District Administration Offices in Norfolk and all of Norfolk Campus.Â Using postal metering machine and electronic scales affixes correct postage to outgoing mail; using correct forms and labels, posts special mail including overnight, registered/certified, insured, etc. Using knowledge of postal and shipping requirements and regulations, determines the most cost effective and expeditious method of mailing or shipping letters and packages. Ensures money (postage) is available on the metering machine.Â Arranges for servicing of the postage machine and/or scales to keep equipment in good operating condition.Â Other duties as assigned.
Considerable knowledge of postal and shipping regulations and procedures, basic office procedures and practices. Working skill in the operation of postal equipment, such as electronic scales and postage metering machines. Ability to train and supervise personnel working in a mailroom; work independently with limited supervision; maintain postal records and prepare necessary reports; analyze mail delivery/shipping methods to determine cost effectiveness; and be flexible in meeting emergent needs.
