The Quaker foundation of Friends School of Baltimore supports and informs all aspects of school life, and the Director of Quaker Life cares for this foundation in collaboration with all members of the school community. The Director of Quaker Life reports directly to the Head of School.
The Director of Quaker Life is a Part Time position for the upcoming Academic School year for 2022-2023. The position will begin in August 2022.
supports the head of school, the board of trustees, and the administrative council in maintaining a focus on and alignment with Quaker faith and practice;
coordinates and supports the birth-through-grade 12 Quakerism and religious studies/interfaith curriculum;
coordinates ongoing professional development for employees to deepen their understanding of Quaker faith, practice, and history;
celebrates and makes visible the religious/spiritual diversity of the Friends School community;
partners with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to ensure that DEI work and the Quaker foundation and practices of the school are well coordinated and aligned;
provides pastoral care as needed for the community and for individual members;
co-clerks and staffs a school-wide Quaker Life Committee and supports its various subcommittees focused on divisional or departmental activities;
supports Meetings for Worship across campus and supports colleagues in creating Meetings that connect with the developmental needs of students of all ages and with the wider needs of the FSB community;
supports Meetings for Business and all other clerked meetings across campus and helps clerks to deepen their practice of sense-of-the-meeting decision making;
Supports and encourages the care relationship between Stony Run Friends Meeting and the school.
Bachelor’s Degree Required.
Applicants should have experience in K-12 schools (preferably independent or religiously affiliated schools), with an emphasis on classroom teaching and/or curriculum design and evaluation.
Strong written and oral communication skills are vitally important, as is the ability to work across multiple school constituencies (administration, faculty, students, and families).
The person serving in this role should identify as a Quaker and/or have strong interest in connecting to the wider Quaker community.
The Director of Quaker Life will support the work of a visionary school leadership team and work collaboratively with the Quaker Life Committee to realize the full potential of the school’s Quaker identity for its thriving as a 21st century school.
