Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students.Â Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associateâ™s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university.Â SWCC also has associateâ™s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.Southwest Virginia Community College is in search of a Non-Credit Mine Safety Adjunct Instructor to serve its Workforce and Continuing Education Division.Â Instructional workload will be based on demand in surrounding communities serviced by the College.Â The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and create a student-oriented learning environment.Â Classes may be offered day, evening, or weekends.Â RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Creating course curriculum, assignments, and assessments; refining and modifying as industry dictates.Meeting expectations of reliability, responsibility, professionalism, and efficiency.Promoting and supporting student success.Teaching mine safety courses as assigned utilizing a curriculum that prepares and enables students to receive a new underground miner certification.Serving as an academic advisor to a diverse population of students.Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of five years of experience related to mine safety. Â Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy (DMME) and/or Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification and qualified to effectively instruct this material to others. Â Expert level of skills and abilities related to occupational safety. Â Ability to meet set deadlines with close attention to details.
