This Infusion Nurse position is directly responsible for providing longitudinal comprehensive care to oncology and hematology patients. It has primary responsibility for the coordination of care, patient and caregiver education, plan of care formulation and documentation, and nursing management of patients receiving care in the medical oncology clinic. This care management includes patient assessment, symptom management, and administration of parenteral fluids, chemotherapy agents, biologic therapy, and supportive care medications.
Provides longitudinal comprehensive nursing care to oncology/hematology patients. Has responsibility for the education of patients and family while working collaboratively with their physicians.
Perform nursing assessment prior to each infusion, review relevant lab results, pain assessment and other symptoms.
Assure the safety of patients by following all procedures related to verification of orders and products when administering chemotherapy and blood products.
Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and uses correct precautions when handling them.
Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other toxic agents and blood products.
Communicate patient symptoms including complaints presented upon arrival to the case manager or team nurse.
Request consultation from social work, dietitian or pastoral care staff when patient's situation indicates.
Document all nursing care activities accurately and in a timely fashion.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job in order to carry out the primary
Current Washington State nursing license.
Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
Additional certification may be required dependent upon department.

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance was incorporated in 1998 as a separate, jointly governed non-profit that included the cancer programs of three partners. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s. The purpose of this organization is to provide state-of the-art patient and family centered care; support the conduct of cancer clinical research and education; enhance access to improved cancer interventions; and advance the standard of cancer care regionally and beyond. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Northwest, and according to the National Cancer Data Base, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients in general have better survival rates than patients treated at other cancer treatment centers.
