The Minnesota Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) is seeking an Executive Director. MAIS is a consortium of 18 independent schools created to support and connect independent schools in Minnesota by:
Working to foster and preserve the independence and freedom of choice in education.
Providing a forum for professional development and the exchange of ideas among faculty and staff.
Fostering communication, collaboration, and support across leadership at member schools.
Promoting the features and benefits of independent schools to prospective families and employees.
The Executive Director reports to the MAIS President and is responsible for the organization’s website, budget, communications and staying current with matters relating to the work of independent schools. This is a part-time position of 15-20 hours a week with flexible hours. The person must have internet access, independent school knowledge, budget experience, be willing to travel to member schools, and to attend conferences held out of state.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Support member school Heads throughout the year
Plan, coordinate and attend HOS quarterly meetings and annual business meeting/retreat
Serve as filter and conduit for information from outside organizations (MN Dept of Ed, MN Dept of Health, MN Independent School Forum (MISF), ISACS, ISAnet)
Coordinate additional meetings, as necessary
Support MAIS affinity groups
Periodically attend meetings and/or track group work and priorities
Track affinity group membership and leadership in MAIS CRM
Support MAIS Teachers Services Committee (TSC)
Attend TSC meetings
Collaborate and supportive committee members with initiatives
Work closely with committee to support triannual MAIS Conference
Manage all aspects of MAIS operations
Daily monitor MAIS inbox
Track relevant school contact information, committee membership, etc in MAIS CRM
Working closely with MAIS Treasurer, create annual budget, review monthly bank statements, provide reimbursement, etc.
Monitor federal and state legislation potentially affecting independent schools.
Communicate and coordinate with MAIS legislative lobbyist
Coordinate with the MAIS legislative liaison,
Connect with other Minnesota independent and private schools as needed when legislative interests overlap
Manage MAIS website content, manage MAIS Google Suites, and other operations-related technical tools
Attend and represent MAIS at regular meetings and conferences, including three annual out-state conferences (NAIS, ISACS and ISAnet) as well as weekly and quarterly local meetings
Stay current on independent school issues by attending national and regional conferences, reading publications and participating in online independent school communities
Work with MAIS Heads to develop fresh ideas for strategic and programmatic growth of the organization.
Previous employment in independent schools
Experience with non-profit operations
