The Office of Academic Services is looking for collaborative and inclusive colleagues to join our academic support team in the roles of Economics Specialist, Writing Specialist, and Accessibility Specialist in support of Georgetown University in Qatar's (GU-Q's) diverse and ambitious undergraduate learners.
The Office of Academic Services (OAS) is a dynamic academic support unit providing a variety of programs and services to enhance learning for all students at GU-Q. OAS offers individual and group tutoring in academic reading and writing across the disciplines; Arabic as a heritage or foreign language; French as foreign language; and economics. In addition, OAS leads a variety of workshops and programs throughout the year to help students develop their academic skills and aspire to excellence.
The incumbent will support student achievement in Economics courses through delivering recitations, review sessions, and provision of office hours.
This is a term, part-time position scheduled to work 20 hours per week throughout the academic year. The incumbent will be expected to start in January, 2022 and the appointment will be subject to renewal for the next academic year.
As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking for locally based candidates only. This is a non-sponsored position that requires all applicants to already have the necessary sponsorship to live and work in Qatar.
Serve as a Teaching Assistant in 1-2 Economics courses per semester: attend assigned Economics classes, grade problem sets and exams, conduct recitations and review sessions.
Provide expert tutoring and workshop leadership in economics, math and academic skills
Recruit, train and mentor student Teaching Assistants and Tutors in Economics
Collaborate with Economics Support Coordinator to provide resources and programming in economics
Meet with faculty to discuss students' needs in Economics courses, grade exams and problems sets
Develop economics support materials
Hold office hours
Participate in training for Teaching Assistants, Undergraduate Teaching Assistants and Peer Tutors
Other duties as assigned
Master's degree in Economics or related field
Previous experience teaching or tutoring in higher education
Strong verbal and written communication skills
