This is an exciting opportunity to work in a COVID-19 testing laboratory and support Harvard University's initiative to expand COVID clinical testing capabilities. Under the supervision of the Lead Laboratory Technologist, the Laboratory Technician performs routine processing for all specimens submitted for testing. Duties include receiving specimens and ensuring efficient throughput of samples to technical areas for testing.
Receives and prepares laboratory specimens for testing in a timely manner
Resolves and documents any problem specimens
Sorts samples and delivers them to testing personnel
Properly stores specimens both before and after testing
Answers phone and directs calls appropriately
Inventories unpacks, and stores all reagents and supplies
Uses PPE appropriately
Decontaminates work areas according to standard operating procedures
Packages and ships samples as needed
Disposes of biohazardous and chemical waste
All other duties as assigned
This position is located on-site in Cambridge. This is a fully benefits-eligible position. We are hiring for a number of openings for each position. Note positions have various shifts – daytime and evening shifts. Rotational weekend shifts may be required. The positions are for a 12-month term, with the possibility of renewal. As business needs change, the hours/days of work may change. There may also be an additional need to work overtime and/or weekends.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role: High School Diploma or equivalent
1-2 years of laboratory experience preferred
Comfortable handling biological specimens
Experience working in a team environment
Strong data entry skills
Attention to detail
Skilled in balancing multiple job duties and priorities in a busy work environment;
Able to perform and complete assigned tasks to meet laboratory needs
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
