Job Description Summary: The assistant coach provides instructional, administrative, and recruiting support services under the direction of the head coach and athletic director.
This position reports to the Director of the University Center. It is combined with another part-time position in the Athletic Department. The Coordinator serves as a liaison between the two departments, handling reservations for athletic-related events in the gym, and ensuring a smooth transition between Athletic and UC gym programs.
Minimum Qualifications Associates and/or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated baseball coaching knowledge
Preferred Qualifications Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the University community and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Have knowledge of NCAA Division III rules
Essential Duties Primary duty is to assist the head coach in the implementation of sport training through teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of baseball.
Under the direction of the head coach, will assist in providing sport skill instruction, assist in the conduct of practice sessions, perform game related duties, and motivate players to give their best efforts.
Contribute to recruiting efforts through on-campus visits and off-campus evaluation.
Support team fundraising initiatives.
Mentor student athletes.
Demonstrate sincere interest in the personal, academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
Represent the University in a positive manner at all times.
Abide by all SLIAC and NCAA rules and regulations.
Oversees scheduling of the gym for athletic events, including basketball and volleyball games, and practices for in-season teams. Uses University Center reservations software.
Communicates regularly with the UC Director regarding both Athletic and UC events in the gymnasium, especially related to set-up and breakdown times.
Monitors the University Center Lower Level to maintain occupancy limits per St. Louis County Guidelines and to ensure building users are adhering to Webster policies for daily access screenings and social distancing.
Assists with cleaning and disinfection protocols of high-touch, shared surfaces/equipment in the Athletic spaces within the UC.
Participates annually in priority scheduling process with UC Director.
Serves as the go-to person in the Athletic Department for other types of reservations in the gym (team open gyms, external athletic rentals, etc.).
Communicates to Athletic Department regarding times when the gym is being used, especially for large-scale events (Orientation, Involvement Fair, International Festival, etc.).
Attends biweekly OPS staff meetings for the University Center. Also meets biweekly with the UC Director.
Assists with facilitation of University Center training and inservice activities.
Attends and presents at University Center area staff meetings as needed in order to provide updates on Athletics activities and facilities.
Conducts weekly walkthroughs of the gym, gym storage closet, training room, equipment room, and Athletics Offices; facilitates and follows up on needed repairs in these spaces. This includes communication with Webster University Facilities Operations staff as well as non-Webster contractors.
Manages the organization and cleanliness of the gym, gym storage closet, and equipment room.
Liaisons with Custodial Services as needed for areas that need attention or for large-scale events/athletic competitions that will require additional cleaning.
With the Director of the University Center and the Coordinator of Aquatics and Fitness, develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures for the fitness center.
With the Coordinator of Aquatics and Fitness, monitors the daily maintenance of the Fitness Center, including all fitness center equipment, and the gym-side locker rooms.
