Job Description Summary: The Department of Biological Sciences is soliciting applications from qualified instructors who can teach University Physics and College Physics, lecture and lab in the Fall 2021semester (with possible continuation to Spring 2022). These course examines fundamental of kinematics, mechanics, vectors, force, energy and states of matter. The goal of these courses are to provide the student with a broad understanding of the physical principles of the universe, to help them develop critical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills, to empower them to think creatively and critically about scientific problems and experiments related to their undergraduate majors. University Physics course requires students to have basic understanding in calculus while College Physics requires knowledge in college algebra. Our Biology program carries a heavy emphasis science-in-practice. The majority of our Biology majors go on to degrees in the allied health fields, industry, and research positions. Applicants with expertise in Ecology,
Environmental Biology, and Population Biology are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be required to participate in webinar training for the online program Canvas before they begin teaching.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants with a Masters or PhD in Physics (or a closely related field such as Physics education, Biophysics, or even Engineering fields with adequate graduate physics credits hours) are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications At least one year of in-person and remote teaching experience is preferred. Successful candidates will be required to complete a lab and chemical safety training course before they begin teaching.
Essential Duties Hold regularly scheduled office hours and be responsive to students via email and voicemail Include in their syllabus their grading policy (what grade is based on) as well as their grading scale. Faculty are expected to follow their grading policies when determining grades (or to notify the department chair in the event of a change) Meet scheduled classes for full time allotted Provide appropriate and timely feedback to students in their classes. Enter grades by the published date Respond in a timely fashion to staff requests for syllabi and/or book orders as well as other requests from administrative staff
