Staffs the OHSU Library service desk: greets Library users; answers questions in person, on the phone, and online; checks books in and out using an integrated library system.
Retrieves books from stacks for user requests; reshelves books after use; checks book drops for returned items.
Scans journal articles or book chapters from our print collection.
Cleans, dusts, and tidies Library spaces.
Special projects as needed.
Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in the following:High School, OR Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours), OR Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours).
Customer service or tech support experience
Experience working with diverse populations
Excellent customer service skills
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, researchers, and staff members
Excellent attention to detail
Effective problem solving skills
Familiarity with searching academic library databases
Enrollment in a library science, public health, or related graduate program
Work or volunteer experience in a library
Experience with the Library of Congress or National Library of Medicine classification system
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with computers, network printer, scanners
Required to work onsite.
Physical demands & equipment usage:
Ability to lift and handle objects weighing up to 20 lbs; able to push and maneuver loaded book carts weighing up to 100 lbs. Comfortable working in dim, dusty areas for moderate periods of time. Requires standing, reaching, and bending on a regular basis; occasionally requires moving and shifting large sections of books for inventory projects.
